Dear Blue Smoke Community,

We have explored every avenue to arrive at a different outcome, but due to the pandemic and months without revenue—as well as a lengthy rent negotiation that has come to a standstill—we’ve reached the disappointing conclusion that there is no alternative but to close Blue Smoke Flatiron and Jazz Standard. 

Blue Smoke will live on at our Battery Park City location led by Texas-native Pitmaster Bret Lunsford, who’s firing up those wood pits daily, lovingly preparing barbecue for you to enjoy by pickup and delivery, as well as via nationwide shipping.

In March 2002, we set out on a pioneering journey to marry authentic pit barbecue with great jazz in New York City by opening Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard in NYC’s Flatiron neighborhood. Blue Smoke opened just six months after 9-11, and though it was an exceptionally challenging time to open a new restaurant, we went on to have an amazing ride. We can’t begin to express how incredible it has been to make so many lasting friendships in both the barbecue and jazz communities throughout the last two decades. Those relationships live on.

We have immense gratitude for our team members past and present, our guests, and the city of New York who embraced Blue Smoke in Flatiron. We value your support more than you can ever know and look forward to serving you ‘cue for years to come.
